Kumbh Mela is one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world, where Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred or holy river. The festival is held every 12 years at each of four riverbank pilgrimage sites.

Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this magnificent festival represents not just a religious congregation but also a celebration of tradition, spirituality, and cultural heritage.

The Sacred Locations & Schedule

The festival rotates between four revered riverbank sites in india, depending on astrological alignments:

  • Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) : The most prominent site where the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers converge.
  • Haridwar (Uttarakhand) : Located at the foothills of the Himalayas along the Ganges.
  • Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) : Situated on the banks of the Kshipra River.
  • Nashik (Maharashtra) : Held along the Godavari River.

The grand Maha Kumbh is held every 12 years, with Ardh (Half) Kumbhs and regional iterations ( such as Simhastha in Ujjain and Nashik) taking place in the intervening years.
